God Witnesses Everything

No matter how one tries to escape God, there is never a place to hide. God can dispel the greatest depth of darkness with the fixed glow of His light. We can avoid, move away or shun from His presence but eventually we must come to understand that nobody can hide from God. He is relentless and He perseveres with His love.

The Psalmist carves this in our minds also, “O Lord, You have looked through me and have known me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand my thoughts from far away. You look over my path and my lying down. You know all my ways very well. Even before I speak a word, O Lord, You know it all. You have closed me in from behind and in front. And You have laid Your hand upon me. All You know is too great for me. It is too much for me to understand.” (Ps. 139:1-6 NLT)

This is a personal write up from David as he comes to know him and searches for depth and inner purity. This must speak to numerous different people who think God is absent to certain actions and thoughts. Paul gets a hold of this and writes to the Corinthian church that, “You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.” (2 Cor. 11:4 NLT)

A lie that is willingly assumed and believed is as influential and controlling as the fact. Never substitute the truth for a lie. It gives the mind a new structure to think differently and it stops selfless understanding. We are inclined to put a stamp of agreement on rumours we hear irrespective of knowing the truth from the source. Someone once said, “The end goal does not justify the means no matter how great the goal is.”

Back to the Psalmist, he confirms nobody can escape God and He knows every detail. The bottom line is He knows what we are thinking and He also knows what we are going to say. God knew exactly what would provoke me to write such an article as this as well. My desperate cry to God is to disallow these ruthless actions to continue. God sees through us and there is no escape from His detailed, piercing knowledge of everything. Therefore, the Psalmist recaps, “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!” (Ps. 139:7 NLT) He pursues us because we must become “a doer of the Word, not just a hearer which is misleading and deceiving.” (James 1:22)
